What's The Difference?
CDs and DVDs are both optical discs and they look almost identical - so what's the difference? CDs can hold 700 MB of data (including video files), or about 74 mins of high quality music (up to 80min on a CD-R!). DVDs can hold 4.7 GB of data or video.
Which One Do I Need.....CD's or DVD's?
For a music project, choose CD. For a movie or video to watch on you TV, choose DVD. Everything else is determined by the size of your data, and what kind of drives you think your audience will have.
Replication or Duplication?
Duplication - Short Runs, Fast Turnaround
CD-Rs & DVD-Rs are pre-manufactured optical discs with an inner blank layer. Your source (data, audio, or video) is duplicated onto the highest quality media and verified bit-for-bit. With very little setup time needed, CD-Rs & DVD-Rs can be produced quickly in small or large quantities. Disc Hounds has the capacity to produce thousands per day.Standard turn times are 1 to 3 business days. Same day and 24hour rush services are available. Digital printing options inlcude 1 color thermal or 4 color process direct-to-disc printing. CD-Rs & DVD-Rs can be pre-silk screened from 1 to 5 colors (turn time is approx 5 days, but can be done ahead of time).
Replication - When your needs are too large for Duplication
This is the original, traditional method of manufacturing optical discs (CDs & DVDs) from raw materials. Your source is turned into a glass master, molds and stampers are then created, and finally each CD/DVD is made one at a time on high-speed molding equipment. Your data, audio, or video is "stamped" into the CD/DVD during this process and then it's off to silk screening. Replication always includes up 3 color silk screen....full color process silk screen and offset printing are also available. Turn time is generally 10-12 business days.
